How to Use the NGX All-Share Index as Your Market Weather Gauge
The All-Share Index can’t tell you which stock to buy. It shows the market’s overall risk climate instead. Picture three warning lights: Green – The index holds key support with broad participation. Selective adds in strong names make sense. Amber – The index is fragile or choppy. Quality names still stand, but new aggressive buys need more proof. Red – The index is breaking down. Pause fresh risk and focus on protecting capital first. Never assume a 2% rise in the index means every stock is a buy. Breadth matters. Before adding any NGX stock, ask yourself: “If the index rolls over this week, would I still be comfortable with this position size?” If not, size down or wait. Stock selection is micro. Index behaviour is macro timing. You need both.
