Nigerian-Born Texas Correctional Officer Arrested Over Public Intoxication Allegation

A Nigerian-born correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has been arrested over an allegation of public intoxication. Bashir Oladimeji Lawal, 37, who works at the Wainwright Unit in Lovelady, Texas, was arrested by Huntsville Police on July 26, 2026. He was charged with public intoxication and later released on a personal recognizance bond. Jail records list a $281 fine. Employment records show that Lawal joined the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in May 2025.
