Ruger Releases “R.U (Raw and Unfiltered Vol. 1)” After Opening Up About Creative Pressure

Nigerian Afrobeats and Afro-dancehall artiste Ruger has released his six-track EP, “R.U (Raw and Unfiltered Vol. 1).” The project includes “Do Nothing,” featuring Musa Keys and Young Stunna. Ruger says the EP reflects a more personal and honest phase of his music. He revealed that other people’s opinions once made him hesitant to release songs that came naturally to him, but he is now committed to expressing himself freely. The release follows Ruger’s 2023 debut album, “RU The World,” and his 2024 joint project with BNXN. “R.U (Raw and Unfiltered Vol. 1)” marks his return with a renewed focus on his own sound and creative direction.

For those who have listened, does the six-track format make Ruger's more personal direction feel focused or too brief?

Do the six tracks feel like a complete story, or more like a teaser for what Ruger wants to say next?

It is interesting that he frames this release around honesty and creative pressure; that can give a short project a clearer purpose.

Maybe, but a short project still has to stand on its own beyond the framing, abi?

Personal and unfiltered are strong labels, but the music itself will need to show that beyond the release narrative.

Starting with the Musa Keys and Young Stunna collaboration seems like an easy entry point before listening through the full EP.
