Ekiti High Court Jails Three Kidnappers for 97 Years, Acquits Three Co-Accused

Ekiti High Court Jails Three Kidnappers for 97 Years, Acquits Three Co-Accused

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced three men to a combined 97 years behind bars without the option of a fine. They were convicted on counts of conspiracy, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms. Augustine Agbogbo (58), Adeniyi Olamilekan (39) and Ademoh Gabriel (39) faced a six-count charge after allegedly robbing and abducting two victims in 2022. The court heard they stole ₦15,000 from one victim at Ayede Ekiti and later robbed and kidnapped a retired naval officer, Lt. Cdr. Eisape Victoria, and another farmer near Itapaji Ekiti. The victims were held at gunpoint in the bush while their captors demanded a ₦70 million ransom. They were eventually released after their families paid ₦8 million. The prosecution called seven witnesses and tendered firearms, live and expended cartridges as exhibits. Delivering judgment, Justice Adeniyi Familoni held that the prosecution proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The three convicts received concurrent terms of 10 years for conspiracy, 15 years each on two kidnapping counts, and an additional seven years for unlawful possession of firearms. Three co-defendants were discharged and acquitted for lack of evidence.
