16 Feared Dead, Scores Missing After Bandit Attack in Katsina Community

No fewer than 16 people are feared dead after suspected bandits raided Kiliya village in Dutsinma Local Government Area on Friday, May 29. The assailants struck just after Juma’at prayers during Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. Witnesses say the gunmen arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire in residential areas. One villager hid in a house and heard screams and gunshots before emerging to find dozens wounded and lifeless bodies. Several residents remain unaccounted for as many have fled their homes to seek refuge in nearby villages. Some locals believe the attack was retaliation after vigilantes killed two suspected gang members days earlier. The Katsina State police command has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
