Nigerian Navy Uncovers Suspected Explosives Camp in Rivers-Bayelsa Creeks
The Nigerian Navy reports that personnel aboard NNS SOROH discovered a hidden criminal camp in the Soku creek area during recent patrols between Rivers and Bayelsa states. Officers became suspicious after spotting a speedboat carrying six uniformed men moving from Sangama Community towards Olowaseri. A search of the site revealed 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition stored in a water container, along with vehicle batteries, electrical wires and foul-smelling substances tied in containers. Early assessments suggest these materials could be used for improvised explosive devices or pipeline sabotage. The Navy destroyed the camp and some items on the spot to prevent reuse. Seized ammunition and select materials have been secured for further forensic analysis and investigation.
