FG Launches CNG at ₦380/L with Credit Scheme and 12 New Stations

FG Launches CNG at ₦380/L with Credit Scheme and 12 New Stations

The federal government has unveiled a compressed natural gas (CNG) alternative at ₦380 per litre to help cut transport costs. The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (Pi-CNG) aims to ease fuel expenses for millions of low-income vehicle operators. Pi-CNG is partnering with microfinance and credit agencies to offer affordable loans for CNG conversion kits. Kits are supplied at cost with no profit margin. Installment plans let drivers spread conversion fees over flexible periods based on their repayment capacity. The shift to CNG could slash fuel and maintenance costs by up to 70% for commercial operators like keke and taxi drivers. The NNPC has also opened 12 CNG retail outlets across Lagos and Abuja to ensure convenient access.

Cutting price is nice, but government's track record with project rollouts doesn't inspire much confidence.
