Lagos High Court Sets July 6 for Bam-Bam’s N156m Fraud Trial

Lagos High Court Sets July 6 for Bam-Bam’s N156m Fraud Trial

Justice Friday Ogazi of the Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed July 6, 2026 for the trial of Atoyebi Lateef Bamidele, popularly known as Bam-Bam. Bamidele, a Bureau De Change operator trading as Prosocial International Limited, faces charges of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and stealing over an alleged N157.206 million failed foreign exchange transaction. The offences are brought under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act and the Criminal Code Act. He was first arraigned in September 2023 by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department. Bamidele pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. The matter was reassigned to Justice Ogazi following the transfer of the original judge. At the resumed hearing, the defendant offered to pay N70 million of the disputed sum and sought a short adjournment. The court then adjourned the matter until July 6, 2026 for trial.

What factors might shape the outcome of Bam-Bam's trial now that July 6, 2026 has been set?

Agree. The defence's case strength and how the judge views those documents will matter a lot.

You're right to wonder, though I'd argue media attention and judicial backlog will really tilt how things unfold by July.

It's interesting that a bureau de change operator is accused of such a large fraud; these cases often rely on paper documentation rather than hard evidence.

I'm not convinced that setting a date so far ahead ensures a fair trial; delays could still undermine confidence in the judicial process.

Lawyers and observers should prepare by reviewing all disclosure documents ahead of the July 6 hearing to spot any weaknesses in the prosecution's case.
