Lawmakers and HOSTCOM Leaders Seek National Honours for Tompolo and Tantita
Over 200 members of the House of Representatives and leaders of Niger Delta host communities have urged the Federal Government to confer high national honours on Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) and the leadership of Tantita Security Services. At a joint retreat of the House Committees on Host Communities and Public Petitions in Owerri, participants praised Tantita’s pipeline surveillance efforts. They credited these measures with reducing oil theft, protecting key petroleum assets and boosting daily crude production from below 1.2 to over 1.7 million barrels. A professor of energy law highlighted thousands of illegal pipeline connections dismantled and billions of naira in recovered revenues. The retreat also warned against negative media attacks that could threaten peace in the Niger Delta. A vote of confidence was passed and recommendations will be sent to the Presidency and the National Honours Award Committee.
