Nigeria’s Passport Slips to 90th Globally, 45th in Africa

Nigeria has fallen one place to 90th on the latest Henley Passport Index, tied with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Nigerian passport holders now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to just 44 destinations, down from 45 earlier this year. Within Africa, South Africa remains the strongest on the continent, ranking 49th worldwide with access to 101 countries. It is followed by Botswana (61st, 81 destinations), Namibia (65th, 74), Lesotho (66th, 73) and both Eswatini and Morocco (67th, 71). Globally, Singapore tops the index with visa-free entry to 192 destinations. Japan is second (188), while South Korea and the UAE share third place (187 each). At the bottom, Afghanistan remains the world’s weakest passport with access to just 22 countries.
