US Elevates Nigeria’s Christian Crisis to Global Terrorism Priority
The 2026 US National Counterterrorism Strategy now classifies the long-running violence against Christians in Nigeria as a global terror threat. It outlines two intertwined goals in Africa: prevent jihadi groups from targeting US interests and protect Nigerian Christians facing organized slaughter. This shift places militants like Boko Haram, ISWAP and Fulani militias on the same threat list as those who attack American forces. It rejects narratives of criminality or climate conflict and calls for decisive action. I have advocated this policy in a presidential memorandum and in my bestselling book. This recognition marks a turning point in a centuries-old jihad with global ambitions.
