Vinícius Júnior Snatches Draw as Morocco Hold Brazil 1-1 in World Cup Opener

Vinícius Júnior Snatches Draw as Morocco Hold Brazil 1-1 in World Cup Opener — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Morocco and Brazil served up a pulsating 1-1 draw in their Group E opener in New Jersey. The Atlas Lions stunned Brazil in the 21st minute when Ismael Saibari latched onto a swift counter and chipped goalkeeper Alisson. Morocco, ranked seventh in the world, looked every bit a serious contender. Brazil levelled proceedings on the half-hour mark through Vinícius Júnior, who cut in from the left and curled a powerful shot into the far corner. Lucas Paquetá came close to putting Brazil ahead before the break, only to be denied by an outstanding Yassine Bounou. Both sides introduced fresh legs after halftime but chances were few in a tense second half. Morocco pressed for a late winner, forcing Alisson into a superb save from Ayoub El Aynaoui’s long-range drive.

I'm not convinced Brazil's attack looked that poor—they dominated possession after the opener.

Brazil will need to tighten their midfield link and adjust pressing if they want a stronger second match performance.
