‘Call of My Life’: A Warm Nollywood Rom-Com That Embraces Its Clichés
Call of My Life is a warm, culturally grounded Nollywood rom-com with charming performances. It follows Soluchi, who is torn between Kalu, a dependable partner, and Eli, whose unexpected phone call changes everything. The film leans into fairytale romance and embraces genre clichés. It opens strong and ends with an earned climax, though its middle section drags. Scenes of Soluchi waking and sleeping feel like filler and slow the pace. Performances stand out. Nkem Owoh and Patience Ozokwor bring depth and humour. Uzoamaka Power inhabits Soluchi’s longing, while Justin Ugonna and Zubby Michael surprise. The cinematography steps away from glossy visuals and serves the story. Overall, I found Call of My Life worth watching. Its pacing flaws aside, it offers a genuinely warm love story rooted in everyday Nigerian life.
