ISRO Satellite Reveals Massive Monsoon Storms Soaking India’s Coasts
Satellite imagery from the Indian Space Research Organisation shows two vast monsoon systems over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Each system features cold, bright cloud tops in infrared images, indicating deep convection and intense thunderstorms. The western system has intensified along the Konkan coast, unleashing heavy rains on Mumbai, the Konkan region and neighbouring districts. Strong monsoon winds and warm sea temperatures are fueling persistent downpours and raising the risk of waterlogging and flooded roads. In the east, a powerful monsoon band stretches from coastal Odisha through Gangetic West Bengal into Bangladesh and nearby northeastern states. Towering cumulonimbus clouds are driving very heavy rainfall, with forecasts warning of more bouts of heavy rain across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and beyond. Meteorologists say continuous moisture inflow and favourable upper-air circulation will sustain both systems. Residents and commuters should prepare for reduced visibility, travel disruptions and possible flooding in low-lying areas.
