Super Eagles’ First Indigenous Coach Adegboye Onigbinde Laid to Rest in Modakeke

Top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation, former internationals, government dignitaries and community leaders gathered on Friday at Saint Stephen’s Cathedral in Modakeke, Osun State to pay their last respects to Chief Adegboye Onigbinde. Onigbinde was the first Nigerian coach to lead the Super Eagles to an Africa Cup of Nations final and to the FIFA World Cup. He also served as Technical Adviser to the Trinidad & Tobago Football Association and later shared his expertise in FIFA coaching programmes. Speaking on behalf of the NFF, former captain Augustine Eguavoen praised Onigbinde’s intellect, discipline and dedication, calling him a trailblazer for indigenous coaches. Dr Felix Owolabi commended his mentorship and unwavering integrity. The football community prayed for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family and colleagues as they mourn the loss of a towering figure in Nigerian and global football.
