Bus Carrying Young Athletes to Hungarian Cup Crashes, Driver Dies and 23 Injured
A rented bus carrying young aerobics athletes, coaches and parents to the second round of the Hungarian Cup veered into oncoming traffic and hit a tree in Hird, southwestern Hungary, on the morning of May 30. The driver was killed at the scene and 23 of the 28 people on board suffered injuries. Injuries ranged from a broken femur and fractured fingers to concussions, bruises and abrasions. Two coaches remain in serious condition and are under continuous monitoring. All injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation. The Hungarian President described the crash as heartbreaking and extended condolences to the driver’s family while wishing a speedy recovery to those hurt.
