Enterprise-Driven Fashion and Beauty Fair Takes Lagos by Storm

Enterprise-Driven Fashion and Beauty Fair Takes Lagos by Storm

At the Eko Hotel Grand Ballroom, Lagos hosted a two-day Miss Nigeria Beauty and Fashion Fair that united industry leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers to spotlight fashion and beauty as engines of economic growth. Beyond traditional runways, the fair featured exhibitions, policy roundtables and enterprise workshops. Lagos State’s Tourism Commissioner, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, pledged government backing, while MTN Nigeria’s CMO, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, stressed that robust systems, not just talent, underpin sustainable businesses. Miss Nigeria Patron Aisha Achimogu highlighted the event’s legacy focus, and reigning queen Doris Ogah urged young women to pursue ambition and visibility. Emerging designers unveiled bold collections as the Young Designer of the Year award celebrated fresh talent. Day two shifted to discussions on scalability, structure and financing. Panelists like Njideka Jack and Uche Onwuka examined data-driven growth and revealed a ₦1 billion matching fund for women-led ventures, underscoring that creativity, infrastructure and collaboration will shape the sector’s future.

It seems the fair highlighted big names and policies, but I wonder if smaller designers truly got equal exposure.

While policymakers attended, it felt more like a showcase than a genuine economic growth strategy for grassroots entrepreneurs.
