Abuja Court Freezes Nine High-Value Properties Linked to Ex-Minister Timipre Sylva
An Abuja Federal High Court has granted an interim forfeiture order on nine properties linked to former Petroleum Minister Timipre Sylva. The ruling follows an ex parte application by the EFCC and was issued by Justice Obiora Egwuatu on April 24, becoming public on May 6. The assets span terraces, duplexes, office buildings and apartment blocks across high-value Abuja districts such as Maitama, Wuse, Garki, Mpape and Dakibiyu. They include residential units in Dakibiyu, Palm Springs Estate in Mpape, Sefadu Street in Wuse Zone 4, Mubi Close in Garki and a building occupied by the National Information Technology Development Agency in Garki. The court approved temporary transfer of the properties to the federal government pending further hearings on their ownership and source of funding. Notices will appear in two national newspapers inviting any claimant to appear within 14 days or risk final forfeiture. The matter is adjourned to May 25 for a compliance report. The EFCC brought the case under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006, alleging the assets are proceeds of unlawful activities. Sylva, a former Bayelsa State governor, has also been mentioned in unverified media reports over an alleged coup plot, though no formal charges have been filed on that matter.
