France and UK to Lead Multinational Video Summit on Strait of Hormuz Security

France and UK to Lead Multinational Video Summit on Strait of Hormuz Security

France and Britain will co-host a video conference on Friday to plan a purely defensive mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz. President Macron and Prime Minister Starmer will co-chair the meeting to discuss restoring freedom of navigation once security conditions allow. The push follows US-Israeli strikes on Iran that halted traffic through the strait and disrupted a key route for global oil and gas. One forum member argued that these European powers have grown weak and risk being overshadowed by emerging states unless they restore their global influence.
