Governor Eno Marks New Era as Victor Attah Airport Goes International and Launches Aviation Ministry

Governor Eno Marks New Era as Victor Attah Airport Goes International and Launches Aviation Ministry — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Governor Umo Eno has celebrated the Victor Attah Airport’s new international status, saying it will boost tourism, trade and other key sectors across Akwa Ibom, Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea region. He noted that direct flights from Accra eliminate costly stopovers and strengthen the state’s connectivity. The governor announced a new Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development and appointed Engr. Uwem Ekanem to oversee its affairs. Plans include adding a cargo terminal, expanding the runway, apron and aviation village, and equipping the airport with modern security and hospital facilities. Meanwhile, Ibom Air will grow its fleet to ten aircraft by June, and the state is sponsoring pilot and engineer training in Paris, Ethiopia and Zaria. With projects like an international conference centre, resort, heritage sites and market under way, Akwa Ibom aims to become a leading regional hub.

Launching an aviation ministry now seems like political showboating rather than a genuine plan for sustained growth.

Airline schedules must align with cargo and passenger demand analysis if we really want to boost trade across the Gulf of Guinea region.
