Residents of Ugbo Ward IV in Ilaje LGA, Ondo State, held a thanksgiving service on August 16 after 18 youths survived a boat accident during the May 16 House of Representatives primary election. The boat, travelling from Ugbo-Nla to Ugbo Ward IV, capsized near the Abe-Alagbon waterway junction after encountering strong waves. Residents of Idiogba-Alagbon quickly mobilised to rescue all 18 passengers, though phones and other valuables were lost. The thanksgiving services honoured the survivors and rescuers, while prayers were offered for safer water travel. The community also acknowledged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reported compensation for victims who lost personal belongings.
