Ikeja’s Iyade Royal Family Validates Prince Tajudeen Muritala Raji’s Ancestral Link

Ikeja’s Iyade Royal Family Validates Prince Tajudeen Muritala Raji’s Ancestral Link

The Iyade Royal Family of Ikeja has issued a statement to set the record straight on Prince Tajudeen Muritala Raji’s indigene status. Family head Prince Olushola Coker says the prince is a bona fide son of Ikeja Town in Lagos State. Their position rests on both documented records and longstanding oral traditions. An official family record dated March 22, 1966, alongside stories passed down through generations, confirms Prince Raji’s place in the lineage. According to the genealogy, Ikeja traces back to Jalo, whose descendants include Ilo, Iyapo, Talabi, and Iyade. Ilo’s line produced Oba Momodu Ilo, the town’s first monarch, followed by today’s Oluwo of Ikeja, Adeniyi Ilo—both affirming Prince Raji’s membership in the same branch. The statement details how Ilo’s descendants branched further into Ogisanyin and his progeny, leading to Omowunmi’s marriage to Raji and their son Muritala. As the sole surviving line, Muritala’s children—Jimoh, Prince Tajudeen, and Azeez—carry on the unbroken heritage from Jalo to the present day.

They say the records are documented, but dem papers alone hardly settle every community dispute so quickly.

It's worth questioning whether a single statement from a family head truly resolves decades of ancestral debates.

Local historians and community leaders should verify those records and ensure transparent public access to strengthen trust and clarity.
