Trump: US Not Satisfied with Iran Negotiations, Threatens Action if Talks Stall
US President Donald Trump said progress in talks with Iran has slowed, diverging from his earlier claim that a deal was near. Speaking at a White House cabinet meeting, he warned that if negotiations falter, the US may have to “finish the job.” Trump linked any ceasefire deal to Gulf states normalizing with Israel under the Abraham Accords. He said Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and others “owe it to the US” after Washington’s campaign. Saudi officials insist they will only normalize ties if there is a clear path to a Palestinian state. He also rejected an Iranian draft memorandum that would lift the naval blockade and withdraw troops in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. “The strait is going to be open to everybody,” he said, even warning Oman to comply or face military consequences. Despite these threats, US officials say diplomacy remains the priority. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted “some progress,” while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth cited military pressure as Iran’s reason for returning to the table.
