Ola Aina Reveals Why He Opted for Nigeria Over England
Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has explained why he switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria. Born and raised in London to Nigerian parents, Aina rose through England’s youth ranks but chose the Super Eagles in 2017. He says heritage and opportunity guided his decision: “My roots are in Nigeria, and representing my parents’ homeland felt right.” Wearing the green-and-white jersey is a special honour for his family. Aina was instrumental in Nigeria’s run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final and earned a spot in the tournament’s Best XI.
