Customs Hands ₦59m Worth of Expired Medicines to NAFDAC in Port Harcourt

The Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt Area I Command, has handed over cartons of expired medicines worth more than ₦59 million to NAFDAC after intercepting the consignment in Rivers State. Customs said the drugs were uncovered during a joint examination involving NAFDAC and other relevant agencies. The command warned that expired medicines can cause treatment failure, drug toxicity and antimicrobial resistance if they reach the market. NAFDAC officials said the agency would begin regulatory procedures for the safe disposal of the products. The handover was attended by representatives of the NDLEA, DSS, freight forwarders and other stakeholders.
