Royal Navy Steps Up Russian Patrols as US Warns Moscow Could Test NATO

The Royal Navy has increased patrols to monitor Russian warships and submarines as United States intelligence officials warn that Moscow may test NATO with limited hostile actions. Officials reportedly fear Russia could attempt a small land incursion, cyberattack, drone strike or other hybrid operation in Eastern Europe as early as this autumn. The concerns follow reports of a Russian missile landing in Poland and an explosive drone being found at Leipzig Airport in Germany. The UK Ministry of Defence said Navy deployments tracking Russian activity in British waters rose by 25 per cent in the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period last year. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Russia may attempt a provocation, though he does not believe it can launch a full-scale invasion of NATO. Meanwhile, Ukraine says it has secured monthly deliveries of Patriot air-defence missiles from the US, as Russian strikes near Kyiv continue to cause civilian casualties.
