Court Freezes NNPC Payments Over $117K Debt Dispute With Chinese Firm
A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has ordered the Nigerian National Petroleum Company and all commercial banks to freeze payments to Beijing Seajets International Forwarder Company Ltd. This follows an ex parte application by Wellman Group Limited, which claims the Chinese firm failed to pay $117,000 for tugboats and barges supplied between December 2025 and January 2026. The court says the freeze will preserve the subject of litigation and prevent dissipation of funds. The matter is adjourned until June 1, 2026 for further hearing.
