Edo Governor Orders Rongtai to Improve Safety After Five Workers Die
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered Rongtai Building Materials Nigeria Ltd. to strengthen workplace safety after a recent crisis at its Utesi facility in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area left five workers dead. The deaths, reportedly linked to electrocution and a crane-related accident, triggered protests that damaged parts of the factory and destroyed more than 20 vehicles and motorcycles. The governor said workers’ grievances must be addressed without resorting to violence or destruction of property. Okpebholo urged the company to provide stronger emergency services, including a clinic, ambulance and medical personnel. He also discussed plans for a police post near the facility and called on the firm to improve community relations and address poor road access around the factory.
