Nigerian-Canadian Hon. Oliver Okennah Urges Ebenebe Youth to Embrace Farming for Food Security

Oliver Okennah has called on youth in Ebenebe, Awka North LGA, Anambra State to take up agriculture as a solution to food insecurity and rising commodity prices. He made the appeal during the Egwu Alusi festival, held from March 5–9, 2026, which marks the start of the planting season and promotes healthy living. Okennah, founder of the Mother Sussan Charity Foundation and 2024 NUJ Anambra State Most Innovative Entrepreneur of the Year, emphasized that farming is not just about growing crops but about cultivating hope and shaping human character. He urged young people to avoid idleness and explore agricultural practices like crop cultivation and animal husbandry. He highlighted that agriculture underpins civilization, wealth creation, and environmental balance. Through his EBENEBE FOOD SUFFICIENCY AND SURPLUS CAMPING INITIATIVE, his foundation has distributed seedlings for four consecutive years. Okennah appealed for partnerships and support to make ‘Ala Igbo’ food sufficient and sustainable.
