Why Did Tinubu’s Supporters Resent Goodluck Jonathan?

I keep asking what offense Goodluck Jonathan committed against Bola Tinubu and his supporters. It wasn’t just them he upset; he also alienated many in the North. This wasn’t about bad governance but exclusion from the national cake. Regions saw Jonathan as blocking access to oil wealth in the Southeast and South-South. That fueled resentment among groups in the North and South-West. The ongoing violence reflects this divide. Attacks persist because the presidency remains with leaders from the North or West. For some, controlling Nigeria’s resources matters more than life itself, and that was Jonathan’s real “offense.”

I'm not sure it boils down only to Jonathan's moves; deeper regional rivalries likely played bigger role.

It seems less about governance failures and more about a perceived monopoly over federal resources that alienated key regional stakeholders.

I'm not convinced it was purely exclusion—internal APC politics likely amplified resentments beyond genuine regional grievances.

Moving forward, any administration should ensure equal representation of regional interests in federal appointments to prevent similar marginalization.
