Police Deploy DIG Ishyaku Mohammed to Lead Security for Osun Governorship Election

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed to coordinate security operations for the Osun State governorship election on Saturday, 15 August 2026. DIG Mohammed will lead the police component of the election-security arrangement alongside other agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security. Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police have also been assigned across Osun’s three senatorial districts to support intelligence gathering and rapid response. Police said security will cover voters, INEC officials, election materials, polling units, collation centres, observers and journalists. The Force warned that ballot snatching, voter intimidation, thuggery and other electoral offences will lead to arrest and prosecution. Armed escorts, security aides and unauthorised persons are barred from accompanying political figures to polling units or collation centres. State security outfits, quasi-security groups and private security organisations are also prohibited from election-security duties.
