Bello Turji Vows ‘Talks or War’ After Attacks in Sokoto and Zamfara

A video surfaced online on 20 June 2026 showing a masked figure believed to be bandit leader Bello Turji. In the recording, he claims responsibility for recent attacks on security operatives in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states. Turji alleges his group struck back after farmers and herders drove away their livestock and killed innocent community members in places like Shinkafi and Sabon Birni. “Allah granted us victory,” he says, adding that they recovered animals by force. He ends by signalling a willingness to negotiate: “If the government is ready for negotiation, we are too. But if they choose war, our fighters are prepared.”
