Nigerian Man Jailed Six Years in Malta for Swallowing Over 1kg of Heroin

Nigerian Man Jailed Six Years in Malta for Swallowing Over 1kg of Heroin

A Nigerian national, Ruby Okeoma, has been sentenced to six years in Maltese prison after pleading guilty to importing more than one kilogram of heroin. Okeoma was arrested on arrival from Brussels when medical scans revealed 104 drug-filled capsules in his stomach. Experts confirmed the capsules contained heroin mixed with paracetamol and caffeine, with a total purity of 12% and street value around €48,600. Under a plea agreement, the court imposed a €20,000 fine and ordered the discs forfeited. Time spent in custody so far will be deducted from the sentence, and failure to pay the fine will result in additional jail time. All evidence will be destroyed once the judgment is final, and Okeoma must also cover expert costs and forfeit related property to the Maltese government.
