Folashade Oluwafemiayo won gold in the women’s heavyweight para powerlifting event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, setting a new world record with a 175kg lift. Her performance earned 134.8 points and led a Nigerian one-two finish, with Rita Ferdinand taking silver after lifting 158kg. Australia’s Hani Watson won bronze with 111.5kg. Nigeria also claimed gold and silver in the women’s lightweight event through Esther Nworgu and Esther Oyema, while Roland Ezuruike won silver in the men’s lightweight category. The results underline Team Nigeria’s strong start in para powerlifting.
