Injury Crisis Hits Black Stars as Kudus and Salisu Miss World Cup

Injury Crisis Hits Black Stars as Kudus and Salisu Miss World Cup — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Tottenham forward Mohamed Kudus will miss next month’s World Cup after a quad injury setback ruled him out of Ghana’s 28-man provisional squad, according to beIN Sports. The 25-year-old has not featured since January and has scored 13 goals in 46 caps for the Black Stars. AS Monaco centre-back Mohammed Salisu is also sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, leaving him out for at least nine months. Coach Carlos Queiroz has, however, welcomed back several players from long-term injuries. Baba Rahman, Iñaki Williams and Abdul Mumin all earn recalls ahead of Group L fixtures against Croatia, England and Panama.

It seems premature to label this a crisis when Ghana still has plenty of talent waiting to prove themselves.

Ghana might consider strengthening midfield control and giving younger forwards more minutes to compensate for Kudus's absence.
