Favour Ashe Blazes to 9.93s Win in Men’s 100m at Commonwealth Games Trials

Favour Oghene Tejiri Ashe stunned onlookers with a personal best of 9.93 seconds to win the men’s 100m at the Commonwealth Games Trials. He was the only sprinter to break the 10-second barrier, cementing his status as Nigeria’s top sprint prospect ahead of upcoming international meets. Nicholas Adekalu followed in 9.98 seconds, while Chidera Ezeakor claimed third place in 10.03 seconds, both setting new personal records. Teenage star Tejiri Godwin impressed with a 10.20-second run, and former champion Enoch Adegoke clocked 10.27 seconds to finish fifth. Sixth place went to Gafaru Audu in a season’s best 10.42 seconds, just ahead of Osama Chibueze, who recorded 10.46 seconds. With four athletes achieving personal bests, the trials highlighted Nigeria’s growing depth in men’s sprinting and raised hopes for strong performances on the world stage.
