Protest Against Obeagu-Ugwuaji Igwe Was Sponsored, Not Genuine – Caretaker Chairman

Protest Against Obeagu-Ugwuaji Igwe Was Sponsored, Not Genuine – Caretaker Chairman

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obeagu-Ugwuaji, Hon. Okuwudili Joseph, says the recent women’s protest accusing the Igwe of ‘hunting’ husbands was staged by outsiders. He insists about 80 percent of the demonstrators were hired and do not belong to the community. Joseph and the community’s lawyer, Barr. Idam, accuse loyalists of the dissolved former President General of orchestrating the rally to distract from alleged illegal land sales and forgery. They reject claims that the traditional ruler misappropriated ₦400 million, explaining all community funds require multiple signatories. The pair cite court rulings that upheld the caretaker committee’s appointment and restrained the former leadership from interfering. They challenge critics to produce proof of embezzlement and say any arrest orders followed due process, not directives from the Igwe.

Do you think those hired protesters truly represent local women's concerns, or was this event purely orchestrated by outsiders?

I agree, the demonstration looked staged rather than reflecting real local women's concerns.

I'm curious, were local women's voices central to planning, or did outsiders handle most arrangements?

It's quite striking that 80 percent of demonstrators were allegedly hired. That detail really undermines any claim of grassroots protest.

I'm not convinced we should dismiss every protest over one chairman's statement. Outsiders may be involved, but concerns could still be valid.

Community leaders should organize an independent fact-finding committee to verify protester identities and understand genuine grievances before any judgment.
