When Political Power Boomerangs: Two Tales of Nigerian Karma
I write about karma in Nigerian politics. Life always returns the consequences of our actions. My first story began with my stand against Dr. Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State. I and several colleagues faced expulsion from our party. Ward executives were pressured. My ally was arrested for refusing bribes. We fought back. Eventually, the machinery that targeted us turned on its own enforcers. The second story takes me to the disputed 2007 election. President Yar’Adua admitted the vote was flawed and was ready to respect the Supreme Court’s decision. Yet insiders forced a different outcome. Decades later, some of those who shaped that decision now cry foul when they face similar rigging. Both tales show that power moves in circles. Today’s victor can be tomorrow’s victim. Principles we discard now may one day be our last defense. That is the hard lesson of political karma.
