11th-Hour Road Flag-Offs in Enugu North: Promise or Political Gimmick?

11th-Hour Road Flag-Offs in Enugu North: Promise or Political Gimmick?

I see a glaring civic betrayal in these last-minute road ceremonies. During his first term, Governor Mbah pledged to dualize over 10,000 km of roads and link all 17 LG headquarters. Yet today rural corridors remain choked by dust. A sudden flag-off days before the official campaign season looks more like political theatre than genuine development. Where are the rural feeder roads to reduce farm losses? What happened to the Nsukka-Lejja-Aku-Ukehe link and the Ogige market reconstruction that displaced thousands of traders? We must demand a full audit of the governor’s “Statement of Purpose” against the reality on the ground. A ribbon-cutting is not a finished highway, and a promise uttered at the 59th minute rarely serves the people. Ndi Enugu deserve concrete results, not campaign confetti.

Public ceremonies right before official campaigns often mask deeper issues, especially when rural roads still choke under dust and neglect.

I'm not convinced these flashy ceremonies change anything; communities need sustained maintenance, not just photo ops days before elections.

To hold leaders accountable, communities should document road conditions regularly and demand transparent construction timelines from the state government.
