Ana Gabriela’s Joy as Quiñones Opens Scoring at 2026 World Cup

Ana Gabriela’s Joy as Quiñones Opens Scoring at 2026 World Cup — 1 of 8
1 / 8

Julián Quiñones made history just nine minutes into his World Cup debut by netting the first goal of the 2026 tournament. The Mexico forward’s strike inside Estadio Azteca set the tone for a memorable opener against South Africa. On social media, his wife, model and influencer Ana Gabriela, shared her excitement with a simple but powerful message: “¡¡El primer gol del Mundial!!” (“The first goal of the World Cup!!”). Her post quickly went viral and was later reshared by Quiñones himself. The couple, who married in 2022 and welcomed their daughter in December 2023, have been each other’s biggest supporters. Quiñones earned Man of the Match honours before Mexico sealed a 2-0 victory thanks to a second-half goal from Raúl Jiménez. Born in Colombia, Quiñones became a naturalised Mexican citizen in late 2023. He carried his club form into the national team and marked his first World Cup appearance with this historic strike, delighting more than 80,000 fans in the stadium.

It's impressive scoring nine minutes in, but early success doesn't always guarantee consistency throughout a long tournament.

Sure, celebrating the opener is fun, but focusing too much on one moment overlooks the team's deeper tactical challenges.
