Kwankwaso’s Vote Share: Kano Stronghold, Not Northern Deliverer

An Obidient claim that Kwankwaso would deliver massive northern votes sounds persuasive until we examine the 2023 figures. Of his 1,496,687 votes nationally, 997,279—or two-thirds—came from Kano alone. Outside Kano, his support collapsed. Across the North-West minus Kano, he polled just 270,971 votes. The North-East and North-Central added only 126,343 and 60,056 votes respectively. If Kwankwaso couldn’t muster broad northern support as a presidential candidate, can he suddenly unlock those same votes for Peter Obi? Politics demands realistic counting, not wishful thinking. Kano remains a key prize. But a Kano colossus does not equal Northern conquest.

Do these figures really show Kwankwaso was overly reliant on Kano, and what might that mean for his national strategy?

Which specific data points link his strong Kano showing to weaknesses elsewhere nationwide?

It's striking that two-thirds of his entire vote came from Kano alone while support practically vanished elsewhere in the North-West minus Kano.

Claiming Kano loyalty skews the picture; it feels like he underperformed in other northern states due to unfamiliar local issues and messaging.

To widen appeal, he must engage grassroots beyond Kano. Na so national support go balance out and grow across other regions.
