Enugu Rangers Clinch Record Ninth NPFL Title with 2-1 Win

Enugu Rangers made history with a 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City to secure their record-equalling ninth Nigerian Premier Football League championship. Captain Chidiebere Nwobodo struck in both halves to guide the Flying Antelopes to the title. Moses Ali pulled one back for the hosts in the 58th minute after goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh failed to hold a long-range effort. Rangers finished the season on 68 points from 38 matches, one point clear of Rivers United. Under coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, Rangers claim his second league crown. Enugu Rangers and runners-up Rivers United will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.

How did Rangers maintain their lead after Ikorodu City's late goal threat? Did Nwobodo's brace alone secure the title momentum?

It's impressive that Rangers equalled the record with nine titles, but their success might reflect uneven league funding rather than pure sporting merit.

I'm not convinced one player's brace tells the full story. What about Rangers' defense lapses that allowed Ikorodu back in the game?

Local clubs aiming to challenge Rangers should invest in developing goal scorers and tightening defence well before the season's final stretch.
