Gates Admits He May Have Been Near Epstein’s Victims During Closed Hearing

Bill Gates told the House Oversight Committee he never witnessed any sexual misconduct by Jeffrey Epstein but acknowledged he may have been in the presence of victims. He said his three-year relationship with the convicted sex offender was strictly professional. A lawmaker noted that some of Epstein’s staff were abused, making it difficult for Gates to rule out being around victims. Epstein’s longtime assistant Lesley Groff also testified she did not know about his crimes. Gates expressed regret for ignoring Epstein’s reputation and said he cooperated fully with investigators.

Do you think Gates's claim of never witnessing any misconduct is enough, given he admitted proximity to alleged victims?

It strikes me as odd that Gates frames a professional relationship but acknowledges presence near victims without witnessing wrongdoing.

It feels dismissive to stress no firsthand misconduct when he spent years meeting a convicted sex offender anyway.
