Netanyahu: Israeli Troops to Remain in Lebanon Until Hezbollah Is Defeated
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that troops would stay in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary to protect northern communities. He vowed to make Iran-backed Hezbollah pay a heavy price for recent attacks on Israeli soldiers and territory. Netanyahu described the latest assault as a blatant violation of the ceasefire that had just taken effect under regional diplomatic agreements. He confirmed he ordered the Israel Defense Forces to retaliate with full force, leading to airstrikes on more than 80 targets, including Hezbollah command posts in the Bekaa Valley. The military reported four soldiers were killed shortly after midnight when a suspected drone or anti-tank missile struck an armored vehicle near Kfar Tebnit. Among the fallen was Lieutenant-Colonel Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, commander of the 401st Brigade’s 52nd Armored Battalion. Defense Minister Israel Katz echoed the prime minister’s stance, stressing that protecting Israeli personnel and border communities takes absolute priority. He warned that any further provocation would be met with a powerful military response.
