Ilorin Drivers Lament CNG Shortage as Long Queues Force Return to Petrol

Commercial tricycle and bus operators in Ilorin say a worsening shortage of Compressed Natural Gas has disrupted their work and forced many back to petrol. Motorists said the CNG station in the Post Office area has reportedly gone without supply for more than six weeks. This has left a BOVAS outlet near the Kwara State University car park as the main operational dispensing point, with drivers spending hours in queues. Some operators said they arrive as early as 5am but may wait until afternoon, cutting deeply into their daily earnings. Drivers on hire-purchase arrangements say they still have to meet daily repayment obligations even when fuel scarcity prevents them from working. The drivers urged the Federal and Kwara State governments to expand CNG stations and ensure regular supply. They say the policy cannot provide the promised cheaper alternative to petrol without reliable infrastructure.
