ADC’s Dare Bejide Rejects Ekiti Election Results, Alleges War Zone Conditions and Vote-Buying

ADC’s Dare Bejide Rejects Ekiti Election Results, Alleges War Zone Conditions and Vote-Buying

In Ado-Ekiti, ADC governorship candidate Dare Bejide described last Saturday’s poll as lacking credibility and resembling a war zone. He alleged widespread vote-buying, intimidation by thugs and security personnel at several polling units, and insisted his team will review the collated results before deciding next steps. He urged supporters to remain peaceful as they await a full breakdown of figures. A preliminary report by the Centre for Democracy and Development West Africa noted the election was generally peaceful but flagged operational challenges, procedural irregularities and isolated delays. Observers reported discrepancies in ballot materials, malfunctions of the accreditation system and incidents of vote-buying in multiple areas. The organisation commended security agencies for maintaining order and called on electoral authorities to address identified shortcomings ahead of future polls.

True, these allegations raise serious questions about the process. Hard to accept results without proper scrutiny.

Critical voices point out that security officers meant to protect voters were also accused of intimidation alongside thugs in several polling units.

I get the concerns, but dismissing the election outright seems premature without full investigation of actual ballot tallies.

Stakeholders should gather detailed reports from observers and petition the election tribunal with documented evidence.
