UK Police Records Show Extradited Suspect as Matthew Chukuemeka Adebiyi

UK Police Records Show Extradited Suspect as Matthew Chukuemeka Adebiyi

In an email to a Nigerian news outlet, the UK Metropolitan Police confirmed the extradited suspect’s name as Matthew Chukuemeka Adebiyi. This aligns with the Nigeria Police Force’s earlier statement. The NPF had identified him as Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi. Some Nigerians on social media accused the NPF of ethnic bias for highlighting the name “Chukuemeka” and linking the suspect to the south-east. The suspect was arrested by INTERPOL operatives in Abuja on January 23, 2025. He faces charges in the UK over the alleged 2018 murder of Joshua Boadu after a Lagos court ordered his extradition.

Both the Metropolitan Police and Nigeria Police Force now list his name identically, yet public confusion over the spelling persists.

I'm not convinced that matching statements from both police forces necessarily guarantees the suspect's identity is accurately represented.

It might help to review the official extradition documents or court filing to verify the exact spelling and identity details yourself.
