From SDP to APC: Tracing Bola Tinubu’s Political Rise
Bola Tinubu’s political journey spans five major parties over three decades. He began with the Social Democratic Party in the early 1990s and won the Lagos West Senate seat in 1992. After military rule ended, he joined the Alliance for Democracy and served as Lagos State governor from 1999 to 2007. In 2006, he helped form the Action Congress, which became the Action Congress of Nigeria in 2010. He remained one of its chief strategists. In 2013, he co-founded the All Progressives Congress and rose to become Nigeria’s president in 2023. He also supported the National Democratic Coalition during military rule, though it was not a political party.
