Kogi Teachers’ Union Demands Recruitment, Restoration of 27.5% Allowance

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has called on the Kogi State Government to urgently recruit more teachers for public secondary schools and restore the 27.5% Teachers’ Special Allowance. The union said the shortage of teachers is increasing workloads and affecting learning outcomes. It warned that the education sector could deteriorate further without swift action to fill existing vacancies. ASUSS also urged stronger security for schools following recurring attacks on educational communities. It called for improved gratuity payments for retirees and a motorcycle loan scheme to support teachers posted to rural areas. While commending the government for industrial harmony, worker relations and the state health insurance scheme, the union said it remains ready to pursue its demands through dialogue.
