Tinubu Greenlights Major NYSC Reforms
President Tinubu has approved a comprehensive overhaul of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The scheme will now be run by a civilian directorate, while the military maintains security for corps members nationwide. The Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Youth have been directed to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations. This will enable immediate rollout of the new framework. Some key reforms include a technology-driven call-up process and risk-sensitive deployment. The orientation programme is now six weeks long with a focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills and career streams. Assignments will match academic backgrounds, camp standards will be graded nationally, and a new graduation ceremony and uniform have been introduced.
